Travelling Gluten Free (2)Do you ever feel like you are stuck in groundhog day. Getting up, heading to work, doing some exercise, throwing something together to eat at night, then rolling into bed.

It seems like the older I get… the less hours there are in a day and I am not exactly sure where they run away to.

I feel like when i sit down at my desk in the morning (after bypassing the coffee machine) to do something, hours pass by… and before I know it is it 3pm.

As you may know I work as an eCommerce Conversion Consultant helping business increase sales on their websites. home-office-569359_1280This is a job that involves being very task focused… but I find sometimes I rush to work without taking any time for myself… So I am working on this work like balance thing.

Recently I started following a blogger called bemorewithless.com who had a great article about “How to Create a Meaningful Morning Routine”.

My Morning Routine.

So in 2015 I have been working on my morning routine, in an effort to fit more bliss in at the start of my day and create some Lucy time that starts things off on a positive note.

Coffee time

girl-690614_1280THEN – I had been popping out to a local cafe to grab a soy mocha in the mornings. But I found this just meant I grabbed it to go, sat down at the computer, and started work without taking some time to enjoy the ritual of drinking a coffee.

  • Feeling the warm in my hands
  • Savoring each sip
  • Letting the delicious scent wash over me.

Also I am not a huge fan of having soy milk on a regular basis, because of the way it is treated it contains  Xenoestrogens that mess with my hormone levels (and ovaries) and after some testing – I have decided its not worth the weird symptoms that accompany drinking it regularly.

NOW – I have switched my routine.

Now fire up the espresso machine,  I take my favourite teacup from the cabinet, fill it with ice, Extract the coffee until I get a rich golden creamer… and enjoy the smell as coffee fills the air. Then I top my coffee with vanilla almond milk – and there you have it a delicious iced coffee.

Surroundings –

bath-465577_1280Rolling out of bed, into some clothes, past a coffee shop and into the office… didn’t leave much time to sit and enjoy my morning before the emails roll in. So I spend some time (and a little bit of cash) creating a great space to enjoy my mornings.

I purchased a beautiful geometric print table cloth.

Cleared all of the clutter out of the dining room so I could sit and look at the window and enjoy my coffee and breakfasts without worrying about all the things I needed to clean, or put away.

Exercise.

crossfit-534615_1920Like most people I fall into a bit of a slump if I do not do regular exercise… and well I end up grumpy and unmotivated. That’s why I like to encourage some movement in the mornings, and feel its a nice way to encourage me towards making healthier food choices. If I got up at 6:30am to do yoga, I am not going to destroy my good work by eating gluten free cookies for morning tea.

I am trying to fit some form of exercise in each morning, be it a short walk to stimulate my brain, yoga, pilates… or even a spin class – My friend took me along to her local spin class in Sydney last month. What a way to wake up, great tunes, motivated people and getting a good old glisten on.

Food

And of course as any gluten free girl knows – Fitting in something healthy to eat can be a bit of a struggle. That is why I am trying to prep my meals ahead of time. So I have time to enjoy them in the morning,  instead of spending all my time making food, only to wolf it down.

Some of my go to breakfast choices are… (Mainly because I can make them all on a sunday and they last 3 – 4 days.)paleo-bacon-egg-pies

  • Overnight Chia Pudding –
  • Medium Boiled Eggs – I cant stand them when they are over cooked and sulphurous
  • Bacon & Egg pies
  • Spinach and Feta Egg Pies

Don’t forget to chew your food.

And the important thing is to take time to savoir them.

You only get to eat 3 times a day… and food is pretty delicious.

So make sure you savor every mouthful… and chew… you would be surprised how many people neglect to chew their food.

I only recently realized I wasn’t chewing my food enough – according to Dr Mercola, you should chew your food into a flavorless paste before you swallow. I think when you are eating on auto pilot it is pretty easy to shovel and guzzle and not really enjoy the deliciousness that is food.
