Is Soya Sauce Gluten Free?

I was just wondering if there are certain brands of soya sauce which are gluten free? I use it as a staple in a lot of my cooking as I love making stir drys and giving my meat and vegetables a bit of a salty Asian feel.

Has anyone found a suitable substitute?

Why does Soy need to have gluten in it anyway?

Tamari

Tamari is naturally brewed soya sauce, and during the process, glutens are supposed to be broken down into aminos, polypeptides etc. Best to read the label and maybe try a tiny bit if you're really sensitive.

Fountain Soy
by: Ann

I have fountain soy, marked gluten free on the front of the bottle, however the back of the label states there are wheat product for caramel and naturally brewed soya sauce (2.5%) (soybean wheat and salt)
This is confusing - is it safe for a someone with coeliac disease

Soy sauce reply

Fountain (Australia) SOy Sauce is gluten-free, labelled as gf and found on the 'regular' food shelves with the sauces

Changs brand- also have a gf soy sauce and light soy sauce

I believe you can use Braggs Liquid Aminos in place of soy sauce for anyone with soy allergies. You will find this product in most Health Food Stores
